I have a shelf with about 50 unread books. My goal is to work at reading through these books. I know I won't read them all as I'm certain to be distracted by other books that catch my eye, but I'd like to make a dent in this shelf. I thought about making a goal to not buy any more books until I read at least 20 of these, but that goal would likely be broken at the first thrift store I enter.

YES!!!! Books are my greatest thrifting weakness! I think my husband would be happy if I tackled the ones I have already in this year.

One of my goals is to abandon a book that doesn't have me in book love. There are so many books and not enough time so I'm going to be selective.

This is an excellent viewpoint.

Ooo this!! Sometimes I feel an unnecessary loyalty, that I *have* to finish a book I started. But why?! 🤔😅 It is better for me to be selective too.

My goal is just to keep reading! I love to read but as a young mother I have other responsibilities that must come first sometimes. I hope to keep working through my unread bookshelf and hopefully at least read 1-2 books per month. I love how Brighter Winter gets me reading genres I normally wouldn't gravitate towards. It encourages me to keep discovering new-to-me books!

I am loosely challenging myself to read a classic per month this year. Although, Middlemarch has lasted throughout January and February, because I was also reading a lot of other books for Brighter Winter. I have absolutely loved Middlemarch, so that's a positive experience ti keep me motivated! And I am going to see if my unread shelf coincides with Chantel's read your bookshelf challenge. I’m actually planning to finish some of the other Brighter Winter challenges that I didn’t have time to complete in Jan/Feb. I appreciate how BW helps me consider or discover some books outside of my usual reading. I’m hoping to read at least one book a month for the rest of the year.

Last year, I chose to read only Christian nonfiction, so this year, I am delving wholeheartedly into fiction! Someone mentioned that she tends to read a lot of books published after 2000, and I totally identify! So, my goal for 2025 is to read several of the tried-and-true classics that I never got around to. At the top of that list are "Jo's Boys", "An Old-Fashioned Girl", and the works of Jane Austen and Charles Dickens.

My 2025 reading goal is to keep reading. I think I’ll search for more challenges online similar to this one. There is one major adjustment to my reading that I will be doing, and that is to choose books that lead me to Christ more. Less Christian romance, more Christian martyr stories.

I want to read more physical books this year, rather than reading on my phone. There’s just nothing that can beat reading a real book. And I have few unread books on my shelves I’d like to finally get around to reading.

My goal is to read 26 books or more ....😊 I enjoy listening to books on audio, as well. Brighter Winter has definitely broadened my choices of books and helped me to keep reading in the winter months.

Brighter Winter has definitely reinvigorated my love of the classics. Both Karita’s presentation on “Why Read Challenging Fiction” and our book club discussion of “My Antonia” reminded me again how enjoyable and intellectually stimulating these older books are. My goal is one classic work per month of 2025. ✨

One goal I have is to make a good dent in my unread stack. I tend to listen to a lot of books while I work but I also have a lot of physical books that I haven't read yet. And also, read or listen to more classics.

I want to read more books published before I was born. An unfair proportion of the books I read were published since 2000, and I've made it a loose goal to read at least one book published before I was born for every three recent reads. Just in case this is not enough of a stretch for me, I am also hoping to begin and finish Anna Karenina before year's end.

Those of you that walk out of thrift stores with stacks of books—I can relate!!! 👏🏽 That’s my favorite kind of shopping, right there.

The challenge in January to read a book from my unread shelf got me thinking. So I pulled down a few others that have sat there unnoticed for years and I want to read them in the near future. I’m also on a reading rabbit trail right now—anything about World War 2 and London catches me. The author Julia Kelly got me into it and I’m continuing whenever I find more about the people of England and how they survived the bombings and rationing and the tension of having their loved ones off fighting. I’m looking forward to reading more. Until garden season sets in, that is. 😏

i’ve read around 100 books for the last couple years, so that’s one of my goals, which may be unattainable with getting a busier schedule. Another is to read through the Jane Austen books, one of which I have completed. But I’ve also been too worried about hitting goals and numbers in the past, so another thing i want to accomplish is to make reading more enjoyable and read more solid books that teach me things applicable to my current life.

I'm using Gretchen Rubin's Read 25 in '25 prompt to finally start reading more physical books instead of audiobooks. Most days I use that time for a book that takes more concentration. It's been one of the bright spots in my winter to mindfully set aside time to sit in my chair and read for a whole 25 minutes (!) when I'd otherwise be frittering it away on something else. I'm hopeful this will become a habit!
